Disney Resort Categories

Disney has 35 resorts on its property, which can be grouped into different categories to fit every budget and style:

  1. Deluxe Villas: These are luxurious, spacious, and ideal for families or groups looking for amenities like full kitchens, washers, and dining areas. Examples include Saratoga Springs, Riviera, Animal Kingdom Villas, and the Polynesian Villas & Bungalows.

  2. Deluxe Resorts: Top-tier in terms of amenities and convenience, offering on-site restaurants and spa services. These include the Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Yacht Club.

  3. Moderate Resorts: A step down in price but still offer great amenities. Think of Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans, and Coronado Springs.

  4. Value Resorts: Affordable and great for families, with plenty of Disney theming. Art of Animation and the All-Star resorts are popular picks.

  5. Specialty Stays: These include options like the Fort Wilderness Campground and the Dolphin, Swan, and Swan Reserve resorts.

Let’s take a closer look at each category and what makes them unique!

Deluxe Villas: The Ultimate Luxury Experience

Deluxe villas offer exclusive perks like early park entry and extended evening hours, along with full kitchens and large living spaces that make them feel like a home away from home. You can choose between studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, or grand villas, and some villas even have bungalows! A fan favorite, the Polynesian Bungalows, sleep up to 8 people and come with beautiful views. These bungalows can cost around $3,200 a night. It is on the top of my bucket list to stay in the future!

Pro Tip: Even if you’re not staying at the Grand Floridian, you can book a spa experience at Senses for a bit of luxury. Make sure you go before your scheduled appointment time to take advantage of all the amenities!

Deluxe Resorts: Dining, Convenience, and Magic

My favorite deluxe resort, the Polynesian, opened in 1971 and is famous for its South Seas vibe, inspired by the Pacific islands. With direct monorail access to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, it’s incredibly convenient for Disney-goers.

Other deluxe resorts include:

  • The Contemporary: With iconic architecture and monorail access, this resort is perfect for Magic Kingdom fans.

  • Animal Kingdom Lodge: Known for its safari views, this resort lets you spot animals like giraffes and zebras right from your balcony.

  • Yacht Club: A great option with its famous pool, Storm Along Bay, and dining at the Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Deluxe resorts often have restaurants on-site where you can make reservations. Some of our favorite dining spots include Kona Cafe and Ohana at the Polynesian and Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge.

Moderate Resorts: Comfort at a Reasonable Price

Moderate resorts offer a balance of affordability and amenities. Prices generally range from $260 to $475 a night, and while they come with early entry perks, they don’t have extended hours like the deluxe resorts. Some options include:

  • Caribbean Beach: Now part of the Skyliner network, this resort offers a Caribbean-inspired atmosphere.

  • Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter: These resorts are themed after New Orleans, with a riverfront setting and beautiful walking paths. You can even enjoy activities like horse-drawn carriage rides!

Port Orleans French Quarter is known for its Mardi Gras celebrations, which are open to all guests. The live jazz music and festive atmosphere are a fun treat for visitors.

Value Resorts: Fun and Affordable

Value resorts are perfect for those who want a fun Disney experience without breaking the bank. While they may have food courts rather than full-service restaurants, they still offer fantastic theming and amenities:

  • All-Star Resorts: With music, movies, and sports themes, these resorts cater to all interests. The All-Star Music resort holds a special place in the hearts of me and my family, with tons of family memories.

  • Art of Animation: This resort is a dream for families and Disney fans with themed areas inspired by Cars, Finding Nemo, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King. As an artist myself, I especially loves the artistically decorated lobby with sketches of beloved Disney characters.

  • Pop Century Resort: This resort is right next to Art of Animation - you can see it across the lake!

Art of Animation and Pop Century both include access to the Skyliner, providing easy transportation to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

Family Fun at Every Resort

No matter where you stay, Disney resorts are packed with activities, from tie-dye and dance classes to poolside trivia and movie nights. My boyfriend Michal worked in children’s activities during our Disney College Program, hosting everything from arts and crafts to s’mores under the stars. There’s activities for everyone to enjoy!
